An intense chocolate, dark hued, hug-in-a-mug. Secretive, seductive whiffs and wafts of melt in the mouth chocolate. Sorted with 2-3 simplest ingredients and ready in a few zappable moments?
My friends freezer expired and she swiftly gifted us 6 litres of chocolate ice cream. Gutted ( hehe yeah right). On opening it still looked firm, like a soft centre chocolate bar and smelt divine!
A little dessert that’s ideal for deep dark winter evening. Serve with molten, chocolate, magma sauce and some …. umm… chocolate ice cream perchance?
I cup/flamingo of melted chocolate ice cream mixed with half a cup/flamingo of self raising flour and a tiny pinch of salt.
Mix, wallop into an appropriate mug, zap in the microwave for 3 and a half minutes. All of which can be sorted in the same mug. If you are sniffy about microwaves this is not for you. Maybe start for 2-3 minutes on high and test with a wooden skewer as you would an ordinary sponge cake?
Tumble out of the mug or eat from same. Such was my disbelief, I made several.
Ribbon of woodland fruits (jam), a tickle of ginger (syrup), a trickle of cherry brandy (booze), an overlooked mint chocolate (tea boy), chunk of chocolate (writers perk), teaspoon of maple syrup and redolence of festive cinnamon (a joy).
Nailed the final foray which included a little less flour, half teaspoon of cocoa powder, a scant teaspoon of sugar, pinch of salt. All done in the same mug and to taste which will depend on personal preference, the character of your chosen/gifted chocolate ice cream and yes, of course, you can use plain flour and a little baking powder. Note if it’s rubbery, it’s simply over cooked.
Having reduced first attempts to a crumb (to check flavour and texture etc). This now reclines in a bag in the freezer for a vaguely Valen-tiny next post. Time to take a gentle step back to make the best of everyday. February can seemingly drag its heels toward Spring and a swiftly doable hug-in-a-mug pud is so simple for one or two servings.
Tempting, heady notes that only warm fragrant chocolate offers. No great multifaceted vats of goo in construction… Let alone a kitchen that looks like post-apocalyptic film set.
Yes please, bulk batches are so last year (well, so far).

I just gained 5 pounds looking at the pictures.

My daughter loves microwave mug cakes
I have a recipe for chocolate soufflé in a mug which is great, but I think this recipe just raised the bar way up!

Chocolate has become the best flavour ever! Is it being made better? This bit of magic sounds like the late-night snack I’ve been waiting for !
